Man City Warmly Welcomes Jérémy Doku
Manchester City has announced that winger Jérémy Doku will be the latest addition to their elite squad.
The Citizens shared the news via their official website on Thursday, 24 August, saying that they were “delighted to confirm” that the 21-year-old will be joining the club on a five-year deal.
According to reports, the English club paid Stade Rennais FC £55.5 million for the Belgium international star.
“This is a great day for me, both personally and professionally,” said Doku in the club’s official press statement before adding: “Manchester City are the best team in world football, so to be joining them is something very special for me and my family.”
Txiki Begiristain, Director of Football at Man City, was also pleased about the move, saying: “In terms of raw attributes, he has everything a winger needs. He has outstanding pace and he is exceptional in one-on-one situations.”
Doku – who has taken the number 11 shirt – is manager Pep Guardiola’s third mid-year signing. The club have also welcomed midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea for £25 million, and defender Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig for £77 million.
The club’s latest signee is expected to replace Riyad Mahrez, who joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli for £30 million last month.
